To smooth the impending sale of their failing haluage business to a pair of European businessmen, Stanley and Norman arrange to complete the deal in a suite at a smart London hotel. At the request of the new buyers, Kurt and Sven, they even arrange for the services of two “sophisticated ladies of the night” to help the new owners celebrate once the deal is completed. But Kurt and Sven had other ideas and intend to knock down the agreed price at the last minute.
All appears to be going to plan until Norman and Stanley’s wives Hilda and Rose arrive unexpectedly at the hotel to wish them luck. Things are then thrown into chaos when the escort girls suddenly cancel, and Kurt and Sven mistake Hilda and Rose at the evening’s “entertainment”.
With the sale of the business at stake, the wives decide to play along – much to the consternation of their husbands – so when the real escort girls arrive due to a change in circumstances, pandemonium ensues and an ever-spiralling series of deceptions and lies keeps everyone on their toes.

“A very funny play with plenty of irony and some classic comedy lines. The writing of Jimmie Chinn highlights his talent for observational humour which was well presented through this talented cast.”

Murder for the Asking: Photos
Check out the photos below from our production of Murder for the Asking, which went down a treat with the audience. Here’s what one of them had to say about it:
“Written by Derek Benfield, this is one of the best murder mysteries I’ve seen since the Thriller Season by Tabs Productions at the Nottingham Theatre Royal, and the cast of The Beeston Players ramp up the tension on this stylish thriller…”

About the Writer
Derek Benfield (1926-2009) successfully combined the career of a character actor with that of a prolific boulevard playwright. Most familiar from appearances on television in The Brothers (1972-76) and Hetty Wainthropp Investigates (1996-98), the diminutive, balding and often moustachioed Benfield frequently played fathers and members of what used to be called “the lower orders”. As a writer, Benfield specialised in farce, most notable for authoring plays such as The Post Horn Gallop, Wild Goose Chase and of course, Murder for the Asking.
2015: The year you join us?

Have you ever thought that you’d like to have a go yourself, either on stage or backstage? We would love for you to come and join us!
But… I’ve never acted before!
Don’t worry, we won’t throw you in at the deep end! We welcome people of all abilities and experience. There are frequently smaller roles which you can start off in, and as you get more and more confident, you can opt for the larger roles. It’s entirely up to you!
But plays aren’t just about the acting. There are always lots of other important roles including direction, production, set design, sound & lighting, prompting, front of house etc…
What does a typical meeting look like?
We meet regularly on Monday evenings, from 7.30-9.30 (except during the summer), so this would be a good opportunity to come and meet us and find out more. You will usually find us reading through different scripts, looking to get ideas of future plays for the group to perform.
In the run up to a production, those involved will be rehearsing, leaving a smaller reading group, so you will certainly get a chance to take part. We usually break for about a half hour to have coffee and biscuits and catch up with one another.
Monday meetings take place at Christ-Church Chilwell (get directions). The entrance is on College Road, and we meet in the room at the top of the stairs.
Do I have to pay?
There is an annual membership fee of £20, but we’ll only ask you to pay if you want to commit to joining us, so please feel free to come along for several weeks before deciding. Also, we ask members to contribute £1 per week to cover tea/coffee and biscuits.
If you’re interested in coming along to a meeting, please get in contact with us.
